Beim Verlust seines Bootes U 548, im Nordatlantik östlich von Boston, ums Leben gekommen. Das Boot wurde durch Hedgehog und Wasserbomben der amerikanischen Zerstörer USS Buckley (DE-51) (Lt. Robert-Reynolds Chrutchfield) und USS Reuben James II (DE-153) (Lt.Comdr. Grant Cowherd) versenkt. (Totalverlust, 58 Tote).
